Abstract
newline Coal is a non-renewable energy resource, exerting environmental threat by producing
newlinefly ash and toxic gases. On the contrary bio coal briquettes derived from agricultural
newlinewaste is a renewable energy resource which has great potential to replace coal. In the
newlinepresent study, a novel sustainable approach towards utilization of bio coal-based fly
newlineash (BFA) as Geopolymer concrete which alternatively reduces overall consumption
newlineof cement which further helps controlling carbon emission, raw material
newlineconsumption, land degradation and circular economy related to construction
newlinematerials. The present study reveals micro-structural properties, feasibility studies,
newlineworkability, mechanical analysis and durability study of modified geopolymer
newlineconcrete.
newlineIn the present study three bio coal briquettes with different agricultural waste (Cotton
newline(CB), Maize-Saw dust (MB), Groundnut shell-Saw dust (GB)) were analysed. The
newlinemajor studies like SEM-EDX, FTIR on BFA revealed a mimicking a characteristic as
newlinecompared to coal based fly ash (CFA). Comparing the respective values with CFA
newlineshowed a strong feasibility for the use of BFA as Geopolymer mortars. A varying
newlinecomposition of CB, MB and GB based BFA with ground granulated blast furnace
newlineslag (GGBS), Alccofine 1203® with natural resources sand and aggregate and
newlinealkaline activator solution thoroughly mixed were casted, cured and analyzed for
newlinecompressive, split tensile and flexural strength. The salinity shock was given to
newlinemodified GPC cube and analyzed the difference between with and without salinity
newlineshock compressive strength. The observed results of different BFA samples were
newlinesignificantly good and sustainable with compare with coal based fly ash. Thus it has
newlinehigh potential to be utilized as a construction material in various applications such as
newlinepaver blocks, bricks, concrete etc.
