Phytochemical Biological and Standardization of some Medicinal Plants in Cucurbetaceae

Abstract

This study was aimed to find the phyto-equivalency of chemotaxonamically same plants of cucurbitaceae family. The plants selected were Cucurbita maxima Duchesne ex Lam, Mukia maderaspatana (L) M. Roem and Kedrostis foetidissima (Jacq.) Cogn, which are the eatable plants of easy and plenty in availability in almost all seasons. It is available as non-cultivated and less water needed plant so, it is well grown in Indian atmosphere. Due to this reason cost of these plants are bear by the poor people also. These plants are not considered as medicine but it is always used as normal dishes in regular life. The standardization of powders stated the methods of preservation and how to maintain the purity during the storage and indicates the free of micro-organism. Ash values indicates the purity and the types of admixtures which were comes during the collection and in drying. Cucurbita maxima pulp which contains more carbohydrate should be preserved more carefully then the remaining two plants. Extractive values indicates that three plant active constituents are more water soluble than alcohol soluble. Based on that hydro-alcohol was selected as extracting solvent and due to the advantages soxhlet extractor was selected for extraction. The phytochemical laboratory analysis reveals the presence of carbohydrates, proteins, sterols, flavonoids, glycosides, alkaloids, tannins, saponins and phenolic compounds. The overall conclusion is that selected cucurbitaceae plants were chemotaxanomically same with phyto and pharmacological equivalency and can be the better remedies for anemia, depressant, ulcer and for heart diseases with diuresis. It might be taken along with water because of water soluble active constituents. These materials could be stored in normal atmospheric condition with no or less contamination. Further, column chromatographical separation and characterization will bring these plants as a convenient dosage form of medicine. newline
