Abstract

The research work aims at analyzing and evaluating the performance combustion and emission characteristics of different biodiesel blends with diesel in a naturally aspirated compression ignition engine In the first phase the combustion parameter of Soybean Rice bran and Pongamia biodiesel blends were used as a fuel in various piston geometry and different fuel injection timings advanced and retarded Biodiesels were blended with diesel in B10, B30 and B50 ratios and engine operating characteristics study was carried out at 20%, 40%, 60% and 80% loading condition with Hemispherical existing piston HEP Shallow Re entrant Piston SRP and Deep Cylindrical Piston DCP The Gas chromatography/Mass spectrometer GC/MS JEOL GC MATE 2 is used for analyzing the composition of the biodiesel Among the various biodiesels with its varying blend ratios Pongamia biodiesel with its blend ratio B50 was identified as the suitable biodiesel based on fuel properties such as cetane rating flash point kinematic viscosity calorific values density market availability and low preparation cost newline
