Surface characteristics and wear studies on CAD CAM milled and additive manufactured dental zirconia

Abstract

Dental ceramics are a restorative substance that may replicate dentures. Because newlineof its excellent aesthetic, tensile and bio-compatible suitable for healthcare usage. The newlineCAD/CAM (Computer aided design/ computer aided manufacturing) milling procedure newlinehas been extensively used in dentistry. Yet, exterior alteration manufacturing techniques newlinecould have an impact on the material s longevity as well as effectiveness. The investigation newlineassesses the surface topography before and after wear tests on dental zirconia on CAD/CAM processed specimens and photopolymerization based lithography based ceramic manufacturing (LCM) 3D printing process. The zirconia disc of 98mm×10mm disc was milled (Sintering (S), Polishing+Sintering (P+S), Sintering+Sandblasting+Polishing (S+S.B+P), Polishing+Sintering+Sandblasting (P+S+S.B), Sintering+Polishing (S+P), Sintering+Polishing+Sandblasting (S+P+S.B), Sintering+Sandblasting (S+S.B)). Phase-1 (pre-sintered and post-sintered) it was divided into four groups: Group A (S+P), Group B (P+S), Group C (S+S.B+P) and Group D (P+S+S.B); Phase-2 (post-sintered) was divided into five groups: Group-1 (S), Group-2 (S+P), Group-3 (S+P+S.B), Group-4 (S+S.B), and Group-5 (S+S.B+P); Phase-3 (DLC coating on post-sintered) was divided into three groups: S, S+P, S+S.B. The samples were coated for 100 W and 200 W for a duration of (30,60, and 90) minutes. The additive manufacturing process was based on LCM, the samples were vertically printed (V.P) and horizontally printed (H.P). The dimensions of the samples were decided based on the literature, machine specification for the characterization, and tribology test. SEM, XRD analysis, and 3D surface roughness topography of both processes CAD/CAM milled and LCM technology were carried out in this study. The hardness of the subtractive manufacturing (S.M) ranged around 1500-1580 HV and additive manufacturing (A.M) ranged around 1470-1500 HV.
