Some investigations on harmonics in gridtied wind farm with battery energy storage

Abstract

Very large capacity energy storage systems ESS are required in power systems for utility shaping when renewable energy systems like wind farms are not supporting sufficient generation due to their intermittent nature In this work Battery Energy Storage System BESS is considered While incorporating BESS its size has to be optimised its dynamics over electrical characteristics has to be analysed and power quality issues arising of AC DCAC conversion stage has to be addressed This work presents insight into a methodology for sizing the BESS a generic BESS model that incorporate its thermodynamics and a numerical fuzzy inference based switching frequency ratio selection for DCAC conversion stage to address the power quality issues The switching frequency ratio selection is based on realtime monitoring of grid side power quality issues In this context in order to size the BESS the intermittent nature of wind power is forecasted using ANN technique To understand the wind velocity variation and wind power variation prediction phenomena a data base comprising 9 variables which presents the site atmospheric conditions is considered. newline
