Earlier Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) was considered to be the disease of elderly but now many young individuals are also suffering from this disease. Endothelial Nitric Oxide synthase (e NOS) leads to production of Nitric oxide (NO) which exhibits anti atherosclerotic effects. Hyperhomocysteinemia, dyslipidemia, and family history of the disease are few of the risk factors for CAD which is also associated with endothelial dysfunction. This study was designed to determine the association of plasma e NOS and Nitric Oxide levels and their relation, if any with Homocysteine and lipid profile in young healthy individuals with and without family history of CAD in first degree relatives (FDR s), with an aim to see if these can be used as predictor markers of CAD in younger population.200 healthy individuals (age 18-35 years) of either sex was enrolled. They were subdivided into two subgroups of 100 healthy adults in each group. Group A had individuals with family history of CAD in first degree relatives (FDR s) and group B had individuals without the family history of CAD in FDR s. Serum Homocysteine, lipid profile, Plasma nitric oxide and endothelial nitric oxide synthase (e NOS) were estimated in both groups. The mean nitric oxide levels were (14.67±4.84 and#956;mol/L) in group A and (20.42±5.54 and#956;mol/L) in group B and were statistically highly significant (p=lt0.001). Also, plasma e NOS and Nitric Oxide exhibited a positive and statistically highly significant association between them in both groups. (r=0.882, plt0.001) in group A and (r=0.855, plt0.001) in group B.Plasma e NOS and nitric oxide with serum Homocysteine and lipid profile can be utilized as predictor markers for early CAD especially in individuals with family history of CAD in first degree relatives. newline newline newline newline
