Abstract
Impact mechanics, both in theoretical and applied research, predicts the structure s fracture under high strain rate loadings. In the present research, the ballistic behavior of weldment under the influence of weld-induced residual stresses and corrosion has been analyzed for the structural component s durability against ballistic impacts. As the impact study is being used by the different streams of engineering, it becomes crucial to understand the implications across various fields. In various engineering application, events such as vehicle crashes and debris hitting the space shuttle exemplify catastrophic failures caused by high-velocity projectiles striking stationary or moving bodies. Impact occurs over a short duration, leading to large plastic deformation, high strain rates, rapid energy dissipation, and thermal softening, among other effects. The objective of the present research is to prevent engineering structures from failing catastrophically under impact stresses.
