Micro level study on groundwater contaminant transport modeling of industrial pollution and hydro remediation

Abstract

Water pollution is a serious problem world over, as a growing percentage of surface water resources and groundwater reserves are being contaminated due to uncontrolled disposal of industrial effluents into land and water bodies This problem is compounded due to rapidly depleting groundwater table Hence in water scarce and polluted areas prediction of pollution migration based on site specific conditions and arriving at suitable remedial methods are very important for managing the groundwater system The objectives of this research comprises study of the groundwater flow system at village level of sub basin by developing a groundwater flow and transport model to predict the industrial pollutant movement in the groundwater system site suitability analysis using GIS for identifying the locations of check dams simulation of hydro remediation through check dams and existing tanks modified as percolation tanks and simulation of zero discharge condition wherein it is assumed that in future the sub basin will not newlinereceive any pollutant load from the tannery industry newline
