newlineEconomic Efficiency and Value Chain Analysis of Coffee Production in
newlinethe Gedeo Zone of Southern Ethiopia
newlineThe principal objective of this thesis is to examine the coffee production
newlineefficiency and its value chain in the two selected districts of the Gedeo zone
newlinein the southern part of Ethiopia. Accordingly, the coffee production
newlineefficiency scores and its determining factors, the coffee value chain and
newlinehousehold determinant factors of coffee market supply analyses were
newlineconducted. The investigation was conducted for the smallholder coffee
newlinefarmers and traders in the sampled six kebeles of Dilla-zuria and
newlineYirgacheffee districts in the Gedeo zone. Primary data were mainly
newlinecomposed of 265 sampled smallholder coffee farmer households based on
newlinemulti-stage sampling techniques and 38 coffee traders using a semistructured
newlinequestionnaire. Furthermore, the coffee production and cost
newlinefunctions and estimation of technical efficiency, allocative efficiency and
newlineeconomic efficiency indexes were conducted via the stochastic frontier
