A Study on Challenges and Prospectus of Textile Industries in Thane District

Abstract

The textile industry is one of the predominately most important industries in India. It is the newlinelargest exporter of textile products. Most of the apparel products and ready market industry newlineare developed in domestic as well as international markets. India is among the tenth largest newlineexporter of textile products in the world. Having competition with China, Bangladesh, newlineVietnam, and Germany like big rivalry, India is trying to develop its industry by encouraging newlineits manufacturers. The industry has been one of the largest employment-generating industries newlineafter agriculture in India. The industry is diversified at the national level in many states. newlineMany states are good at the production of cotton. Tirupur, Calcutta, Ichankarnji, and many newlineothers are the major centers in the production of textile products. In Maharashtra, the leading newlineproducing zones are Ichalkarnji and Bhiwandi region. Thane district is well known for its newlinetextile production, especially in the Bhiwandi region which is known as the hub of textile newlineproduction. Hundreds of small units are concentrated in the Bhiwandi region. Migrated labor newlinegets gig jobs here. Many manufacturers provide accommodation to their labor so that the newlineproduction is regularized. If given concentration, the textile industry can be flourished here. newlineMany problems are being faced by the manufacturer related to production, prices, promotion, newlineplace of work, shortage of raw material, training, etc. There are several schemes announced newlineby the GOI under TUFS and SITP but small and marginal producers are not aware of them newlineand hence they are not able to enjoy the benefits provided to them. There is symmetrical newlineinformation among manufacturers. If the industry is given due importance and young newlineentrepreneurs are groomed, the industry can do well in near future.
