An Analytical Study of Crimes Against Scheduled Castes in the State of Uttar Pradesh

Abstract

The Indian Constitution guarantees to its citizens equality of status and opportunity by newlineproviding that no individual shall be discriminated against on grounds of religion, newlinecaste or sex, etc. Despite such guarantee, since time immemorial, inequality, newlinediscrimination, and casteism in society are prevailing in the country and are the root newlinecauses to commit atrocities against the people of Scheduled Castes in their daily life. newlineThe so-called upper caste people feel that they are superior to this deprived newlinecommunity. This casteist mindset provokes them to hurt the scheduled castes. Social newlinejustice is a challenge in the face of all types of equalities and liberties guaranteed by newlinethe Constitution of India. Now the final time has come to abolish all sorts of newlineinequality and discrimination from the society against them. newlineThe framers of the Indian Constitution provide several constitutional provisions and newlinelegislative safeguards to protect the rights of Scheduled Castes. Inspite of these provisions newlineand safeguards, this community has been compelled to live like an animal in this Twenty First newlinecenturyand#8223;s educated and broadminded society. After the independence, a hope dawned newlineamong them that now they will get rights to equally live with other countrymen. Also, newlineseveral social reformers such as Mahatama Jyotiba Phule and Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar newlineplayed a pivotal role in protecting their rights like others before independence. The newlineframers of our Constitution saw the dream of a sovereign, socialist, secular, and newlinedemocratic India, where everyone will live with complete liberty, equality, and fraternity. newlineHowever, it is shameful that in so many ways, discrimination against the people of the newlinescheduled castes continues to be practiced. newlineThe community of Scheduled Castes continues to face the same inequality, social newlinestigma, humiliation, poverty, and discrimination they have been subjected to for newlinecenturies despite protection under Article 15 of the Indian Constitution.
