Abstract
Energy crises and environmental pollution are the two major issues affecting
newlineliving life globally. Population growth and large industrialization enforce these issues
newlinethrough water, air pollution and energy requirements. So in the need of hour,
newlineintroduction of a clean energy system and environmental remediation technology are
newlinebiggest challenge for researcher. The diminution of fossil fuel encourage for an
newlinealternative source of energy. In this search solar energy accepted as an innumerable
newlinerenewable source of clean energy. By implementing a green technology semiconductor
newlinebased photocatalysis can be used for energy conversion and environmental contaminant
newlineelimination. Designing an efficient adsorbent for water purification is another green
newlineapproach for environmental remediation. Bearing in mind these above reason, the
newlinepresent investigation based on construction of an efficient material like aluminium based
newlinelayered double hydroxide and its modified form by employing many synthetic strategy
newlinelike (i) metal cation doping in the brucite layer of LDH for surface area modification (ii)
newlinemodified LDH based on heterostructure formation through p-n junction for efficient
newlineseparation and migration of space charge region.
newlineAluminium based LDHs have high crystallinity which is beneficial for the
newlinenanosheets growth, that s also leads to increase the thickness of LDH and existence of
newlinemore OH- group projected to have high hydrophilic surface, improved the surface
newlinechemical reaction and it modified form showed high photocatalytic activity (water redox
newlinereaction and Chromium reduction) as well as adsorption (Malachite green removal). The photocatalytic activity of as-synthesized CoAl LDH, NiAl LDH and MgAl
newlineLDH has been compared towards chromium (VI) reduction. The XRD result indicates
newlinethe pure formation of LDH phase with the degree of crystallization, which depends on
newlinethe incorporated metal and confirmed the LDH formation. The larger crystallinity CoAl
newlineLDH exhibited 99% Cr(IV) degradation than NiAl LDH (87%) and MgAl LDH (51%) at
newlinepH 5. CoAl
