Abstract
Pancreatitis is an inflammation of pancreas which leads to aberrations in digestive process.
newlineTropical calcific pancreatitis (TCP) is an enigmatic disease of pancreas without a known
newlineetiology, distinct from other forms of pancreatitis like alcoholic pancreatitis. It is a juvenile
newlineform of pancreatitis which remains undiagnosed in the early stages. The sparse amount of
newlineliterature suggests that TCP is a progressive ailment where patient gradually suffers from a
newlineunique form of diabetes called fibrocalculous diabetes (FCPD) and finally end up with
newlinepancreatic cancer. Thus, TCP is a rare fatal disease of the tropical regions. There is dearth of
newlineinformation about the pathophysiology of TCP. Since the phenotypic symptoms mimic other
newlineforms of pancreatitis, TCP patients initially are being treated with common therapies.
newlineSteadily, the disease progresses, and imaging technologies reveals large pancreatic stones,
newlinedilated pancreatic duct, and other comorbidities like FCPD and cancer in a TCP patient, but
newlinethe therapies still remained unanswered. The paucity lies in the early stage diagnostic markers
newlineand targeted drugs.

newlinestudy has given significant leads towards the etiopathogenesis of tropical calcific pancreatitis,
newlinewhich was till now not grounded. We believe that our study has paved the path towards
newlinediscovering biomarkers and targeted therapies for TCP and it will be used further by
newlineresearchers to delve deeper.
