Power Quality Improvement In Three Phase Two Stage Grid Interface For Solar Pv System

Abstract

Due to the ever increasing demand for electrical energy and problems associated with the conventional thermal power plants, recently, more attention has been given to the solar photovoltaic (PV) based power generation. Solar power is clean, renewable and abundantly available everywhere. The output of a solar photovoltaic (SPV) panel depends on the solar insolation and temperature. When designing photovoltaic (PV) systems an accurate model is essential. Photovoltaic models have added the model complexity due to a lay of transcendental nonlinear equations. This research work has proposed an easy-to-model and simple technique for carrying out photovoltaic (PV) system in simulations. The proposed photovoltaic model is constructed using a simple computational block and a controlled current source (CCS). The proposed technique neglects the use of nonlinear equation solver and hence, require simple mathematical blocks. The simplified modeling has an advantage of ideal diode models and its derived mathematical expression increases the accuracy. newlineAlso a power electronic converter is required to be interfaced with the solar panel output to the ac grid. This research work is based on design and development of a three phase grid interfaced power electronics converter for PV applications. newlineThe power electronic interface has two stage conversions, with a dc-dc boost converter and a dc-ac three-phase voltage source inverter for grid integration. The dc-dc boost converter takes the maximum power point (MPP) operation of the solar panel and VSI controls the dc link voltage and the power injected into the grid. The maximum power point tracker (MPPT) algorithm is applied to the boost dc-dc converter to ascertain the solar array operation always at its maximum power point (MPP) on P-V characteristics. newlineThe MPPT algorithm performance based on the Perturb and Observe (PandO) and Incremental Conductance (IncCond) algorithms to maximum power point tracking for solar PV system have been analyzed critically. Based on design methodologies, a PV mod
