Abstract

newlinePediatric chronic kidney disease is multifactorial and medical nutrition therapy has a significant role in preventing malnutrition and slowing the progression of renal disease Clinical trials particularly in children with renal disease are very limited Hence the present interventional study was proposed to evaluate the impact of intensive nutrition education for parents and to aid children growth and development while enhancing their quality of life through nutrition supplementation A total of 80 children were recruited based on the inclusion criteria and were assigned to control and experimental group using simple random technique and assessed for baseline characteristics The experimental group were supplemented with nutri cookie for a period of four months and were given individual nutrition education whereas study participants in the control group received only nutrition education and were followed up for a period of three months after supplementation Both the parent and children were screened using the validated KAP questionnaire for parents alone and PedsQL questionnaire A high level of significance p less than 0 point 01 was observed in the stunting status of the experimental group as well as in the nutrient intake among the two groups as evidenced by the food selections made by the study participants as proof of effective nutrition intervention both in terms of supplementation and education The KAP scores and PedsQL scores at the conclusion of the intervention have been significantly impacted by nutrition education provided The need of a thorough nutritional evaluation and the implementation of a systematic nutritional intervention strategy with a multidisciplinary team approach have been highlighted in this particular study The strategy adopted and implemented in this study had a substantial impact on the participant quality of life as well as their growth pattern dietary intake and overall nutritional status It also helped the care givers knowledge and attitudes about renal nutrition newline newline
