Residential child care institutions in Kerala: special reference to their organizational characteristics

Abstract

Residential care programmes had been widely recognized as an newlineintegral part of child welfare programmes in order to help newlineorphans and destitute children Commonly known as Orphanages newlineor Children s Homes the residential institutions are expected newlineto provide substitute care for children whose parents are unable to discharge their parental roles due to certain circumstances Thus having assumed the role of substitute homes Chlldren s Homes are supposed to be functioning as people changing service organi zatlons and are expected to carry out the task of car 1 ng and socializing their residents Based on this assumption an effort has been made through this research work to analyse the characteristics of Residential Child Caiis Institutions RCCls in Kerala within the theoretical premises of human service organizations The study intends to examine and descr ibe the following factors
