Changing Paradigms of Population Control A Comparative Analysis With Special Reference to the Rural Urban Continuum of Aligarh District UP

Abstract

This research was done to under intergenerational changes in perception in context to family planning and idea family size in a population living buffer zone in Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh State. The population neither has full urban features nor rural lifestyle. It was trying to define these areas as rural-urban continuum. Though, they are having rural healthcare regular services offered under national health mission in rural areas and enjoying urban areas privilege like access and availability of resources required to lead a comfortable life with partial civil amenities. It is important to note the notion of family planning has taken a giant leap forward since 1952. On that note, it imperative to acknowledge as well that family planning and population control in India being a politically sensitive subject has tremendous influence on responded while answering few questions asked in this research. Therefore, while reading this thesis it should be kept in mind that results may aligning with hypothesis have been never free from biases and prejudices. Though research tried to eliminate these biases and prejudices. It is impossible for any research to be objective in a true sense. In-fact, this research has inherited same flows and shortcomings. newlineParadigm in family planning and population control program in India has shifted in Sunday ways in India even before International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD)-1994 coined Paradigm shift term, but it was not as abstract as it was done in the ICPD conference. This research tries to capture this shift in a data set qualitatively and quantitatively in Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh state.
