Investigation of the Role of AI Based Writing Tools in Enhancing Writing Skills Among Engineering Students A Survey

Abstract

This research is a survey-based study that aims at finding the impact and perceptions of AI-based writing tools on the enhancement of writing skills of engineering students in Northern Tamil Nadu. Using a purposive sampling technique, the researcher has selected participants from six engineering colleges categorized by regions: two from urban areas, two from semi-urban locales, and two from rural settings. The survey, involving a total of 561 student participants, aimed to investigate the impact of AI-based writing tools on various aspects influencing writing skills. These aspects encompassed reliability, confidence levels, demographic factors, communication barriers, personalized assistance, real-time feedback, and gender differences. To analyze the responses, the study employed both quantitative and qualitative research methods, utilizing questionnaires as the primary research tool. The collected data from participants were evaluated using SPSS software, providing a robust platform for statistical analysis. This comprehensive approach seeks to provide insights into how AI-based writing tools contribute to enhancing writing skills across diverse factors, offering a nuanced understanding of their impact on engineering students in Northern Tamil-Nadu.
