Abstract
The present study entitled ELEMENTARY LEVEL TEACHER EDUCATION
newlineIN ODISHA AFTER 1986: MAJOR INTERVENTIONS AND CONSEQUENTIAL
newlineCHANGES was undertaken with the following objectives such as (i) to reflect on the
newlineprogress of teacher education in Odisha at elementary level in the perspective of National
newlinepolicy on Education 1986,modified in 1992 and NCFTE 2009(ii)to examine the changes in
newlineteacher education with regard to the major interventions like ;(a)Management of Teacher
newlineEducation, (b)Curriculum of Pre-service Programme, (c)Teaching Learning Process,
newline(d)Organization of In-service Programmes and (e)Performance of Student Teachersand#8223; in
newlineDIETs and ETEIs (iii)to study and to compare the perception of teacher educators of DIET
newlineand ETEI, student teachers of DIET and ETEI and teachers across different levels of teaching
newlineexperience about the major interventions made in teacher education consequent upon the
newlineimplementation of NPE1986, modified in 1992(iv)to identify the problems and issues in
newlineteacher education with respect to the implementation of major interventions.
newlineConvergent parallel design was followed to conduct the study on 45 teacher educators
newlineof 3 DIETs and 3 ETEIs, 120 student teachers of DIET and ETEI and 90 elementary level
newlineteachers with three levels of teaching experience spreading over three revenue zones of
newlineOdisha.
