Tobacco and alcohol consumption patterns and their socio economic impact a study of organised and unorganised labour in the industrial town of Baddi Himachal Pradesh

Abstract

The purpose of this thesis was to investigate the socio-economic impact of Alcohol and Tobacco on the life of industrial labour among organized and unorganized group residing in the industrial town of Baddi, Himachal Pradesh (India). Using quantitative, qualitative and social work intervention techniques, this tobacco, Alcohol consumption, patterns and socio-economic implication has been understood from the user s (labourer) and non user s (family) perspective. Findings corroborate that income loss is prevailing in both organized and unorganized worker but magnitude more has been seen in Un-Organized Sector, habitual in early age and adolescent period. Additional earning in the family, Debts, selling hose holds product and borrowing. Domestic Violence and physical as a result pathetic condition of child due to poor quality of life. Poor interaction with community and neighbor, social isolation and exclusion, Neighbors having lack of respect regarding effected family. Citing certain cases and narratives, the study captures the persistent increase in the violence against these brides and their lower social status once girls enter such kind of marriage alliance. This research will mark a beginning for future research in this area and be helpful to researchers undertaking such studies. Most of these strategies are voluntary in nature or can be implemented with the minor restructuring of the existing policy and operational frameworks. newline
