Comparative evaluation of the efficacy of local anesthetics lidocaine bupivacaine articaine and ropivacaine in dental implant surgery a randomized control trial

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate and compare the efficacy of Local newlineAnesthetics agents (Lignocaine, Bupivacaine, Articaine and newlineRopivacaine) in dental implant surgery. newlineMATERIALS AND METHODS newlineThis randomized trial study was conducted at the Department of newlineImplantology, Saveetha Dental College, and individuals of all genders, newlinethe age ranging between 22 to 84 yrs. of age (mean: 29.48 ± 4.66), took newlinepart in this trial. After Inferior alveolar nerve block anaesthesia of newline4%Articaine with 1:100000 epinephrine in the group 1, newline0.75%Ropivacaine in group 2, 2%Lignocaine with 1:80000 epinephrine newlinewas in the group 3, and 0.5% Bupivacaine in group 4 the following newlineanaesthetics variables were recorded: 1. Quality of anaesthesia (QAS), newline2. onset time (OT), 3. Duration of action (DA), VAS scores of newlineintraoperative-pain were noted down at 2 mins, 10 mins, 30 mins, 1hr, newline2hr, 3hr, 4hr, 6hrs, 8hrs, 10hrs, 4. intensity of intraoperative pain (IIP) newline(VAS scale). The results were tabulated in sheets and statistical analysis newlinewas done using the latest SPSS software (version 28.0.1.1 (14)). newlineRESULTS newlineHundred and thirty-six individuals, were divided into 4 equal groups newlineof 34 each, and were part of the trial. Articaine and Ropivacaine showed newlineto be statistically significant with variables: QAS of 2.91 ± 1.19 and 3.0 ± newline1.15 respectively and lower for Lidocaine and Bupivacaine 5.06 ± 1.36 newlineand 4.12 ± 1.55 respectively. OT was 2.21 ± 0.41, 2.59 ± 0.85, 4.15 ± newline1.10 and 5.76 ± 1.74 s, for groups I, 2, 3 and 4 respectively. The DA for newline4%Articaine was 1.93 ± 1.22 hrs Ropivacaine was 2.43 ± 1.92 hrs, while newlinefor 0.5%Bupivacaine and 2%Lignocaine with epinephrine (1:1lakh) it was newline1.59 ± 0.64 hrs, and 2.68 ± 1.35 hrs, respectively. The Amount of La used newlinefor single mandibular molar implant placement was ML: Articaine was newline5.15 ± 1.42, and 4.05 ± 1.37, 5.15 ± 0.98 and 4.50 ± 1.39 respectively newlinefor Ropivacaine, Lidocaine and Bupivacaine newline
