| dc.description.abstract | newline The abnormal increase in the level of homocysteine in blood plasma is known newlineas hyperhomocysteinemia and it has strong risk factor for several diseases newline(Sachdev, 2005; Van et al., 2009; Graham et al., 1997; Stanger et al., 2009). newlineBecause of its neurotoxic nature this sulphur containing amino acid has drawn newlineattention in the past few decades. Both genetic and environmental conditions have newlinebeen considered to be the key factor playing role in the development of newlinehyperhomocysteinemia. Elevated level of homocysteine is intricately linked to various newlineneurodegenerative diseases such as alzheimer s disease, parkinson s disease, newlinecognitive impairment etc. Hyperhomocysteinemia has a negative impact on newlineneurophysiological process of learning and memory. Numerous studies have newlineinvestigated that high concentration of homocysteine in blood plasma is involved in newlinebrain damage and thus markedly associated with cognitive decline. It leads to newlinecognitive impairment and in this process multiple factors are involved (Lipton et al., newline1997; Kruman et al., 2000; Gharib et al., 1983; Huang et al., 2001; Starkebaum newlineand Harlan, 1986; Menegola et al., 1996; Nishio et al., 1997) | |
