A critical study of changing dimensions of Federalism under the Indian constitution

Abstract

In a federal system the power is distributed between Centre and the States by virtue of the newlineprovisions of the Constitution. The Constitution is a living document and it grows with the newlinegrowth of civilization and adapts itself to changing socio-economic conditions in legal system newlinethrough constitutional amendments and judicial interpretation. The research work is focusing on newlinethe changing dimensions of federalism under the Indian Constitution and is undertaken to test the newlinefollowing hypotheses: i) the cooperative federalism contemplated in the Constitution is further newlinestrengthened; ii) the federal fiscal transfers have become healthy over a period of time; iii) there newlineis refinement in the administrative relations through changing times and; iv) the predominance newlineof Union continues to prevail in legislative, administrative and financial spheres.
