dc.description.abstractMood and depressive disorders are cogitated as the most common neurological disorders. Disorders that primarily exhibit disturbance in mood are known as mood disorders. Bipolar disorders and depressive disorders (unipolar depression) are the two classifications of mood disorders. Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), also conceded as clinical depression, is a mood disorder represented by persistent low mood along with anhedonia or loss of pleasure in nearly all activities. It disturbs how a person feels, thinks, and behaves, and can lead to various emotional and physical problems. newlineAs anticipated, 280 million people globally, or 5% of adults, are suspected to be brooded with major depressive disorder (MDD). Further, 700,000 people die due to suicide every year. Suicide is the fourth uppermost cause of death, in 15-29-year-people, and furthermore, 75% of population with mental health ailments in low and middle class-income nations do not even receive/acquire specific medical attention. Clinical symptoms of MDD newlineNumerous aspects contribute to the incidence of these clinical symptoms of MDD in humans, as plentiful theories and underlying causes have already been recognized. Disparities in levels of numerous monoamine neurotransmitters, hiked oxidative and/or nitrosative stress in the brain cells and mitochondrial damage in brain and peripheral cells, along with dysregulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis are widely deliberated key contributors to the pathology of MDD. Due to low success rates with conventional treatment regimens for MDD, exigency for novel treatment options rises, which aim alternative pathways tangled in the pathogenesis of MDD and this is possibly newlinedriven by the severe side effects and delayed therapeutic outcomes associated with conventional medications and treatment options. newlineVarious bioactive compounds have been reported pre-clinically in last decade for their assessments in CUMS model produced mood despair.
