Abstract
Aim: To conduct a survey on overall health status in relation to socio-economic condition of the family. Introduction: The present study covers the entire state of Assam and it is the land of diversities in physiography, people and socio-cultural practices. An individual health is crucial to perform the best and finest. When an individual is bodily fit in physical, mental and social health aspects then she or he feels capable of hard endeavor and a life without endeavors useless. To walk and to do work God gifts us two legs and two hands. However, if instead of utilizing organs present in our body accordingly in a proper manner, then it s our own mistake that leads to any postural deformities. Mostly people spend their time since morning till night of a day only lying on a bed or by sitting continuously for most of the days of week in a month that culminate in acquiring poor health. Purpose of the study: To investigate on physical component summary measures, mental component summary measures as overall health indicator and to assess how BMI varies among adults of different socio-economic status of Assam state. Procedure: For the present study, twenty six hundred adult men (age range 30-40 years) from various districts of Assam state were selected randomly as subjects for this study. The data of those subjects were collected through two questionnaires namely Kuppuswamy Socio-economic Status scale latest version 2017 and SF-36 questionnaire. Also, to calculate BMI of the respondents a portable stadiometer and Electronic digital weighing machine were used. Incomplete questionnaires were not considered while categorizing as per socioeconomic condition of the respondents. The variables socio-economic class chosen for the present study was considered as independent variable while PF, RP, BP, SF, MH, RE, VT, GH and BMI were considered as dependent variables.
