Abstract
In recent years, the liquid crystal-nanoscience has emerged as an interesting field of research. The researchers who are working in the field of liquid crystals are looking forward to improve the properties such as switching speed, viewing angle and contrast in display devices. The association of nanotechnology with liquid crystal research seems to be one of the finest ways to improve the liquid crystal properties according to our requirements. As discussed in the previous section, one of the main features of liquid crystal- nanocomposite system is, liquid crystal has been found as an appropriate medium to provide self-assembly of nanoparticles. Hence, one can make use of the nanoparticles to optimize the liquid crystalline properties and vice versa [8, 72]. The proper control over these properties may be utilized in various applications such as display devices, photonics, sensors, photovoltaic applications etc. Lot of work has been carried out in this field but still the opportunities are in store to make more advances.
