Abstract
The present study was focused on assessment of gamma radiation level near
newlinethe water sampling sites, analysis of uranium, heavy metals (Cu, Zn, Fe, Co, Pb and
newlineAl), water quality parameters viz. pH, TDS, EC, DO, ORP, salinity, temperature,
newlinesulphate, chloride, nitrate, phosphate, carbonate, bicarbonate in groundwater
newlinesamples, soil leachate solution and their correlation with uranium, kinetics of
newlineleaching of uranium from soil to groundwater, factor affecting of leaching capacity
newlineof uranium and adsorption isothermostec collected from different locations viz. Anta,
newlineBaran, Kishanganj, Shahbad, Mangrol, Atru, Chabra and Chhipabarod tehsils of
newlineBaran district of hadoti region of Rajasthan, India. My research work divided in six
newlinechapters.
newlineChapter 1 Briefly describes the natural radiation exposure and its
newlinecharacteristics, uranium and its chemistry in the environment, distribution of
newlineuranium in the environment, uranium speciation and uranium mobility in soil for
newlinebioavailability, leaching of uranium from soil to ground water and uranium pollution
newlinein groundwater. The objective of the thesis is briefly described highlighting
newlineevaluation of uranium in groundwater in the study area and its comparison with
newlinevarious standards: 30and#956;g/l (USEPA, 2000), 60 and#956;g/l (AERB), and 30 and#956;g/l (WHO,
newline2011). The expected contribution from the proposed study has also been included at
newlinethe end of the chapter.
newlineChapter 2 Deals with different materials, methods, equipments and
newlinedescription of study area. Standard protocols are applied for estimation of water
newlineparameters, Uranium and gamma radiation during the entire research work.
newlineChapter 3 Reports results of assessment of gamma radiation level near the
newlinewater sampling sites, assessment of uranium, physico-chemical parameters and their
newlinecorrelation in groundwater. The analytical data for all water quality parameters and
newlineuranium are cross checked with respect to recommendations given by
newlineBIS/WHO/AERB limits to identify the pollution level.
