Abstract

newline The Internet of Things (IoT) has been the most emerging technology in the last decade because the number of smart devices and their associated technologies has rapidly grown from both industrial and research perspectives. IoT has expanded its acceptance because of its deployment in smart homes and smart-city developments worldwide. Unfortunately, IoT network devices operate on limited computing power with low storage capacity and bandwidth. Thus, they are more vulnerable to attacks than other endpoint devices such as cell phones, tablets, or PCs. Rapid growth is occurring in developing a secure and robust model for performing regular tasks such as collecting data, processing collected data, storing data or information, and communicating with each other. The development of such a model that involves conquering countless numbers of stumbling blocks is a little challenging. Cybersecurity threats materialize daily, while older threats still linger around and wait to be exploited again. It is unfortunate that the IoT is also under the protection of these cyber threats. Recent advances in IoT, blockchain, and cyber-physical systems have increased the importance of study in these areas. Blockchain has shown great potential in IoT based systems where security issues disrupt the centralized system with a single point of failure. The use of distributed ledgers using blockchain in the IoT can increase the security aspect and user access management mechanisms, which further leads to a robust mechanism. newline
