Abstract
Sustainable development is an approach that seeks to foster economic
newlineprogress in a nation while preserving the environment for future generations.
newlineIt encompasses three key elements: Environmental conservation, social
newlinedevelopment, and economic advancement. These components are interconnected
newlineand vital for achieving sustainability. The key objectives include sustainable
newlineeconomic growth, livelihoods, harmonious coexistence with the environment,
newlineand the use of suitable technology. Sustainable development strives to balance
newlineeconomic prosperity with environmental and social considerations, emphasizing
newlinethe importance of responsible resource utilization and fostering a harmonious
newlinerelationship between human activities and the planet.
newlineUrban sustainability, integral to long-term harmony, balances
newlineenvironmental conservation, social equity, and economic growth. Although
newlineurban centers present prospects for social and economic progress, they can
newlinealso be afflicted by significant disparities, degradation of living standards,
newlineand environmental harm. This research addresses the pressing need to evaluate
newlineurban sustainability in Tirunelveli City, India, aligning with Sustainable
newlineDevelopment Goals (SDGs). While developed nations have established
newlineframeworks, aligning numerous SDG targets with local contexts poses a
newlinechallenge in India.
