Enhanced Control Strategies with High Gain Converter for Ultra Fast Electric Vehicle Charging in Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems

Abstract

The growing adoption of Electric Vehicles (EVs) has significantly increased the demand for efficient and reliable charging infrastructure. To meet these requirements, researchers have focused on integrating Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems (HRES) that combine Solar Photovoltaic (PV) and Wind Energy Conversion Systems (WECS) to ensure sustainable and high-performance EV charging solutions. This hybrid approach offers a diversified and renewable power source, enhancing energy availability and reliability. Among various electrical generators used in WECS, Doubly Fed Induction Generators (DFIGs) have gained widespread adoption due to their high energy conversion efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Additionally, the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) rectifier plays a vital role in converting the variable AC output from the DFIG into a stable DC supply suitable for EV battery charging applications. A critical aspect of wind energy systems is optimizing power extraction from wind turbines under fluctuating wind conditions. To achieve this, Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) techniques are employed to dynamically adjust the operating point of wind turbines for optimal energy capture. newlineAmong various MPPT approaches, the Chaotic Particle Swarm Optimization (CPSO) algorithm has demonstrated superior performance due to its enhanced ability to explore the search space effectively and converge toward optimal solutions, achieving a tracking efficiency of 98.79%. This research contributes to the advancement of intelligent renewable energy-based EV charging infrastructure, ensuring improved efficiency, sustainability, and reliability. Furthermore, to enhance the convergence speed, the research work utilizes Chaotic Dragonfly Optimization (CDFO) based MPPT. This technique dynamically adjusts the operating parameters of turbine to track Maximum Power Point (MPP) by iteratively enhancing exploration and exploitation capabilities with rapid convergence speed. newlineSimilarly in a PV system, the DC-DC converter and control strategy is essential, s
