A cross sectional study to assess the symptoms of apana vayu vaigunya among employees with a habit of atiyana across kerala

Abstract

The science of life which explains the knowledge of various guidelines to be followed in order to make a healthy living is called Ayurveda. With the expansion of facilities of travel and occupation, man has to undertake extensive journeys, through newlinediverse modes such as rail, road, water etc. Most of these situations cited have been newlineprincipally implicated in vaigunya of Apanavayu. The manifestation of Apana vayu newlinevaigunya varies from mild cases of onstipation to severe cases of mental newlinedisturbances. One of the prominent factors highlighted as cause of Apana vaigunya is newlineAtiyana, which is the reason for selecting A cross sectional study to assess the symptoms of apana vayu vaigunya among employees with a habit of atiyana across Kerala. Symptoms of Apana vayu vaigunya told in major classical books of Ayurveda were gathered to device a comprehensive understanding of the context. As a part of the study journey for more than a period of 2 hours a day or 100km per day were determined as a cause of Atiyana. Based on the understanding a validated questionnaire was developed. The status of Apana vayu was taken using a specific newlinegrading scale. The survey was conducted among the population conforming to the inclusion criteria. The data thus obtained were statistically analysed to verify the newlineassociation between Atiyana and apana vayu vaigunya. Among 332 possibile associated symptoms of apana vayu vaigynya as pathogenic newlinefactor in different diseases, the most repeatedly occurring 28 symptoms were newlineenumerated and assessed among the people undertaking atiyana through survey method. (Cross sectional). The survey report revealed that more than 65% of the symptoms were positive among people undertaking atiyana. Many symptoms of apana vayu vaigunya have statically significant association with atiyana.The risk factor relations like odds and relative risk were found statically significant in many apana vayu vaigunya symptoms and atiyana.
