Abstract
As in any other surgery, pain is a primary concern. In cardiac surgery
newlinethe severity of pain is immense and extreme. Pain is known to be the most
newlineunpleasant state for any individual after surgery. It is an individual s
newlineperception and only a suffering person can explicit the severity of pain. So, it
newlineis important for health care professionals to manage post-operative pain
newlineeffectively. They should accept new methods and practice to reduce the pain
newlineand improve the individual comfort. The present day demands the changes in
newlinethe health care system according to the individual needs and expectations,
newlineassuring the recovery and positive well-being. (Yaban et al, 2019). In various
newlinesurgeries, acupressure- stimulation at PC6 acupoint has been practiced but,
newlinetill date there are only a few studies done in stimulating PC6 acupoint through
newlinetouch after cardiac surgery. This implies the incorporation of complementary therapies into nursing practice to ensure adequate pain control and enhance
newlineindividual comfort following cardiac surgery. Acupressure therapy is quickly
newlineadaptable. Hence, nurses can learn acupressure easily and can implement it
newlinein clinical practice to ensure the individual s comfort and reduce distress.
newlineThere is a need to study the effect of acupressure on bio-physiological
newlineparameters and pain after mediosternotomy individuals.
newlineThe aim of the present study is to evaluate the effectiveness of
newlineacupressure in improving the biophysiological parameters and to reduce the
newlinelevel of pain after mediosternotomy.
newlineFrom the results of the present study nurses
newlineworking in the cardiothoracic and vascular surgery unit should understand the
newlineimportance of acupressure, learn, and educate the mediosternotomy
newlineindividuals the technique of acupressure to improve the quality of life and
newlineprevent complications.
