Abstract
Health care is one of the most important of all human
newlineendeavours to improve the quality of life especially of the 0-6 yrs
newlinechildren. The years between 0 and 6, growth is generally slower than in
newlinethe first year of life but continues gradually. The child may gain in
newlineweight per month is 150 to 200 gram between one and two years.
newlineActivity also increases during the second year of life. Development of
newlinea full dentition by about the age of 2 years also increases the range
newlineof foods that can be safely eaten. There is need for all nutrients, but
newlinethe pattern of increase varies for different nutrients in relation to
newlinetheir role in growth of specific tissues. Early childhood care and
newlineeducation has a tradition of integrated curriculum approaches
newlineembedded in children s everyday life. It refers to the children s
newlinesurvival, growth, development and learning including health,
newlinenutrition, hygiene, cognitive, social, physical and emotional
newlinedevelopment from birth to entry in to primary schools in formal,
newlineinformal and non-formal settings. The rich experience of ICDS has brought about a welcome
newlinetransition from welfare orientation to a new challenging perspective
newlineof social change. The evaluation of nutritional and immunization
newlineservices was undertaken in the rural and urban ICDS centres of
newlineGanjam District. The Socio-economic development of the country
newlinedepends on the health status of it s children. So the opportunities for
newlineearly childhood development determine the present and future of the
newlinecountry. The present research is an attempt to study the nutritional
newlineand health status of ICDS and Non-ICDS children (3-6 yrs) in urban
newlineand rural areas of Ganjam District. A sample of 300 children was
newlineselected. Initially 10 Anganwadi centres were randomly selected from
newlinethe rural and urban areas of this district for this study.
