Abstract
This research aims at understanding the process of entrepreneurship among the tribal
newlinewomen in the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha, India in order to identify the pathways for
newlinesocio-cultural context, challenges and opportunities for entrepreneurship among the
newlinetribal women in the area. Based on both qualitative and quantitative research, this study
newlineaims at analysing the effect of various intervention, policies and programs on the
newlineencouragement of entrepreneurial activities among the tribal women. Also, the study
newlinemeasures the success of the capacity building interventions, access to finance, market
newlinelinkages and other supportive infrastructure in encouraging sustainable entrepreneurship
newlinebusinesses. The findings add to the existing theoretical knowledge on entrepreneurship
newlinedevelopment especially among the marginalized population and provides policy
newlinerecommendations for the government, non-governmental organizations, and other
newlinestakeholders to improve the social economic well-being of the tribal women in
newlineMayurbhanj district. The role of women entrepreneurs in the growth of the Indian
newlineeconomy has been quite significant. A look at the Indian scenario reveals that women
newlinewho are self-employed constitute 7..2% of the total self-employment population. Most
newlineof them are involved in the recognized sector which includes agriculture, handcrafts,
newlinehandlooms, and cottage-based industries. The general characteristics of the tribal people
newlineare quite different from that of non-tribal. They are not very sense entrepreneurial of in
newlinethe real word but what they have is what can be called traditional entrepreneurship that
newlineis characterized by the use of simple technology that is in harmony with their
newlineenvironment.
