A STUDY ON SPORTS AND RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES OF PERIYAR PURA VILLAGE CHILDREN AND THEIR IMPACT ON CHARACTER

Abstract

Sports and Recreational activities in Tamil Nadu are many and varied. The state had a number of ancient games, some of which have survived till today. In this research work, my focus is on the character of the children towards the sports and recreational activities of 67 Periyar PURA (Providing Urban Amenities in Rural Areas) villages, which are under the supervision of Periyar Maniammai University. The concept Providing Urban Amenities in Rural Areas (PURA) was introduced to provide villagers with livelihood security. newlineThe study was delimitated to the use of questionnaire, attitude scale and interview schedule for practicing sportsperson. Questionnaire was prepared in English in consultations with the guide as well as experts in the field with care and seriousness of the purpose taking into consideration the maximum coverage of area of the field concerned with different aspects needed for the study. Later on it was translated in to Tamil for the better understanding of the subjects. I had prepared 25 questions, which depicts the character of the children that are more vital for a human being. Moreover I analyzed the minds of the children and how sports and recreational activities help to build the good character among themselves. I also compared the results of common children with the Practicing Sportsperson for analyzing the similarities and differences of Periyar PURA village children. This analysis helps us to understand them and so us to guide them to improve their skills. newline
