Spintronic Based In Memory Computing Architectures for Bio Inspired Computing

Abstract

In this research the existing computing architecture such as a Von Neumann newlineComputing architecture which is made of semiconductor devices is altered by the newlinespintronic devices such as a skyrmion. newlineIn spintronic device (skyrmion) the electrons spin on its axis and with each 3600 spin newlinefeature the spintronic device becomes an ideal candidate for developing an In- newlineMemory computing architectures in a bio-inspired computing in beyond newlineComplementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (beyond CMOS) paradigms. newlineIn this research we propose to explore and exploit the spin behaviour of electron in a newlineskyrmion based in-memory computing architecture for implementation of bio-inspired newlinecomputing. Here we highlight the spintronic memory based in-memory computing newlinearchitectures as an answer to the current limitations of CMOS technology. newlinedata. This information can be encoded into the up and down projections (similar to newlinecurrent ON and OFF in a transistor) and standard logics can be applied for newlinecomputations and information technologies. newlineTo challenge with CMOS with respect to Boolean logic, emerging technologies are newlinefacing glaring issues. The necessity of using non-traditional circuits is ever increasing newlineto perceive the full potential of beyond CMOS devices. One dominant technology that newlineconsistently features in the list of bio-inspired computing systems is spintronic (with newlinethe spin behaviour of electrons). newlineThe purpose of the research is to develop the digital system circuitry that will connect newlineCMOS and spintronic devices and combination of these depicts the beyond CMOS newlineparadigm where digital circuits will act as neurons and spintronic devices will act a newlinesynapses. In this research the brief list of activities performed and major contributions newlineare summarised in the following: newlinea. Development of algorithms dedicated to spintronic/ digital CMOS circuits. newlineb. Digital ASIC design (Verilog or VHDL) using industry standard tools newline(Xilinx). newline
