dc.description.abstractnewline The present study entitled Prevalence of anaemia in antenatal women living in tribal, rural and urban areas of Uttar Pradesh. was done in the Department of Community Science, Acharya Narendra Deva University of Agriculture and Technology, Kumarganj, Ayodhya . Total 270 antenatal women from tribal areas of Lakhimpur, rural-areas of Ayodhya and urban areas of Kanpur districts of U.P. The majority of respondent were in the reproductive age group of 18 to 25 years with the considerable proportion marrying before the legal age of 18 years specially among tribal women. Caste wise majority participants belongs to schedule tribe followed by OBC and general category. Majority (53.3%) tribal women were illiterate. 44.4 % tribal women were from families with monthly family income Rs.4501 to 6000, nuclear family system dominated with 63.7 per cent antenatal women belonging to nuclear family.63.3 per cent tribal women were non vegetarian. Whereas 68.8 per cent rural and 65.6 per cent urban antenatal women were vegetarian. 66.6 per cent tribal women were under weight and 30 per cent were normal. Whereas in urban and rural population 22.2 and 28.8 per cent were under weight. Except cereal, sugar and jaggery and fat and oil intake of all other food groups like pulses, green leafy vegetable and milk and mil products was much less than the suggested dietary intake. The nutrient intake including energy, protein, minerals was also less then than recommended allowances in all the categories. Caste was found to have a positive co- relation with both the hemoglobin and BMI. However positive co- relation have found with income, occupation with BMI and haemoglobin. Education showed a moderate positive co-relation with BMI. Seven iron rich food products were standardized including soy-chunks and aloo tikki, colocasia besan leaf roll and beet root leaf cutlet. Nutritional intervention of antenatal women significantly improve their nutritional knowledge. newline newline
