xiv newlineABSTRACT newlineBackground: Understanding the factors that influence behaviour is the key to behaviour newlinechange. One of the notable methods for understanding the associated factors of any newlinehealth risk or protective behaviour is to study the associated factors of that specific newlinebehaviour using prominent health behaviour theories because theories help to promote a newlinebetter understanding of a behaviour. Michie et al. (2011) opined that most prominent newlinehealth behaviour theories are often overlapping but differently named, and little guidance newlinehas been provided on how to choose a particular theory for a specific behaviour context. newlineAddressing these concerns, by synthesizing 19 prominent health behaviour frameworks, newlinethey developed the Behaviour Change Wheel (BCW). The Capability, Opportunity, newlineMotivation and Behaviour (COM-B) model, is at the hub of Behaviour Change Wheel newlineexplains why behaviour occurs and directs to choose appropriate intervention strategies newlineto address that particular behaviour change. Tobacco use is a leading cause of premature newlinedeath and has a high mortality rate all over the world. Given the need to reduce the newlinenoticeable rising prevalence rates of tobacco use behaviour, as well as the importance of newlineinvestigating region-specific associated factors, research into the associated factors of newlinethis unhealthy behaviour remains important. Because India has a diverse culture, the newlineassociated factors influencing risk behaviour vary by region based on cultural factors and newlinesocietal norms.
