Abstract
Supercapacitor also known as electrochemical capacitor is the alternative source of energy that has
newlinebeen under immense interest recent days. Depending on the charge storage mechanism
newlinesupercapacitor can be divided into two categories, electric double layer capacitor and pseudo
newlinecapacitor. Electric double layer capacitor (EDLC) store charge through electric double layer
newlineformation and Pseudo-capacitor store electric charge through electron transfer faradaic reaction.
newlineRecently nanocarbon materials like CNT, graphene and redox active materials like various metal
newlineoxides and hydroxides have shown promising behaviour as active electrode materials.
newlineIn chapter-1 basics of supercapacitors have been highlighted. Supercapacitor is an electrochemical
newlineenergy storage device having superior capacity than that of conventional physical capacitors, and its
newlinecharging/discharging rate capacity is relatively much better than that of primary/secondary
newlinebatteries. Supercapacitors are considered to bridge the gap between batteries and capacitors to form
newlinequick charging energy-storage devices of intermediate specific energy. They have lower energy
newlinedensity compared to the batteries, but they can transfer the stored energy in a very small period of
newlinetime for the required usage. Supercapacitors can work for much extended periods of times than
newlinebatteries, often millions number of cycles, without losing their energy storage capability. In case of
newlinebatteries, the electrical energy is created by the conversion of chemical energy through redox
newlinereactions at the anode and cathode.
newlineIn chapter-2 the various types of characterization instruments and their use have been innumerated.
newlineVarious analytical methodologies are used for assuming the composition of the nanocomposites
