Physical activity and general wellbeing of schoolteacher in relation to job satisfaction family environment and socio economic status

Abstract

The aim of the present study was to find out the physical activity and general well- being of school teacher in relation to job satisfaction, family environment, and socio- economic status. For this purpose, total (n-200) teachers from government and private schools in Chandigarh were selected through the convenience sampling technique. These teachers were then categorized into two groups: newly recruited teachers with less than 5 years of experience (n-100), and teachers with 5 or more years of experience (n-100). Descriptive statistics were applied to analyze the mean, SD and F-value among job satisfaction, general well-being, family environment, physical activity, and socio-economic status among government and private teachers. Pearson Product Moment Coefficient of correlation were used to examine relationships between variables, showing the strength and direction of the linear relationship. The research outcomes demonstrated general wellbeing among teachers has significant negative relationship with job satisfaction at 1% level of significance and socio-economic status, while it has no significant relationship with family environment. The study found significant differences in job satisfaction, general wellbeing, physical activity levels, and socio- economic status between government and private teachers in Chandigarh. Government teachers reported less job satisfaction and general well being compared to private teachers, while private teachers exhibited higher levels of general wellbeing. However, there was no statistically significant difference in family environment between the two groups. Government and private teachers reported approximately the same socio-economic status, indicating that there is no significant difference between the two groups. The study reveals that job satisfaction among Chandigarh government teachers varies based on experience.
