USE OF ELECTRONIC INFORMATION SOURCES BY STUDENTS AND FACULTY MEMBERS IN MEDICAL COLLEGE LIBRARIES OF JAMMU AND KASHMIR

Abstract

Medical librarianship is fundamental to the practice of health care and to medical newlineeducation and research. Its necessity in the whole functioning of library services is newlinedirectly related to the importance of which individuals and society give to medical newlineservices. Medical libraries are important for the organization and retrieval of the vast and newlinecontinuously expanding fields of knowledge in the health sciences, and thus to the newlineeffective delivery of health care. The first CD-ROM product offered searching newlineMEDLINE was started in 1986. The microcomputer has changed the medical students newlineand medical practitioners approach to medical literature searching. In 1966 the National newlineLibrary of Medicine U.S.A produced MEDLINE, the first database of its kind for newlineinformation in clinical medicine. It was a machine readable version of the venerable newlineIndex Medicus. newline
