dc.description.abstractnewline Strong antioxidants include phenolic acids such as coumaric, caffeic, chlorogenic, and newline214 ferrulic acids (Larson, 1988). By quenching singlet oxygen, and#946;-carotene, a phenolic newlinecompound, functions as an antioxidant. The way p-coumaric acids work is by newlinepreventing the production of free radicals (Laranjinha et al., 1995). Another class of newlinephenolic compounds that donate electrons and stifle free radicals is called flavonoids. newlineNonetheless, there are occasionally conflicting findings in the literature regarding the newlinerelationship between phenolic compounds and their antioxidant properties (Qusti et al, newline2010). While some researchers have found a strong correlation, others have found none newlineat all or a very weak correlation between phenolic compounds and antioxidant activity. newlineAccording to certain research, there is a strong link between fruit phenolics and newlineantioxidant activity. There was also a strong correlation found between the phenolic newlinecompound and antioxidant activity in the case of cereals and flax seeds (Velioglu et al., newline1998). The 1950s saw the beginning of research into plant-based anticancer agents. newlineAbout 100 such agents have been developed over a 25-year period beginning in 1981; newlineof these, 25 are herbal extracts, 18 are mimics, 11 are herbal pharmacophore newlinederivatives, and 9 are pure herbs (Newman and Cragg, 2007).
