Strategic Energy Management in Energy Intensive Enterprises A Study of Recycled Paper and Pulp Industry in India

Abstract

Paper industry is one of the important segments of India s industrial economy, newlineranking 5th among paper producers in the world and accounting for nearly 4 % of newlineglobal production. Paper demand in India is growing at a compounded annual growth newlinerate of 6-7 %. Per capita annual paper consumption in India is about 13 kg against the newlineglobal average of 57 kg. It is also one of the most energy intensive industries with newlineenergy costs constituting 15 to 30% of total production costs of a paper mill. This newlineindustry has a special category of renewable energy resource in energy rich biomass newlinegenerated during paper manufacture. newline
