Abstract
OBJECTIVES
newlineThe objective of this study is to evaluate the efficacy as well as the safety of the plants Prosopis juliflora (PJ) and Kabasura kudineer chooranam (KSK) in treating Lipopolysaccharide (LPS)
newlineMETHODOLOGY
newline78 male Wistar albino rats weighing between 200 and 250 grams were chosen and divided into 5 groups. Groups 1 to 4 contained 18 animals apiece, while group 5 had 6 animals. The animals in groups 1 to 4 were additionally separated into 3 sub-groups. SIRS was produced in all sub-groups within groups 1 to 4 by administering lipopolysaccharide (LPS) (Escherichia coli 0111: B4) at a dose of (PBS), via intraperitoneal injection on day 4. Groups 2, 3, and 4 of animals were administered their respective medications from day 1 to day 6.
newlineAnimals in group 1 were used as a control for inflammation and were given a single injection of LPS alone. Group Hydrocortisone at a dosage of 10mg/kg, divided into two doses. Group 3 received an oral dosage of 1ml/kg/day of the aqueous extract of kabasura kudineer, also divided into two doses. Group 4 received an oral dosage of 4mg/kg/day of the extract from Prosopis juliflora leaves, also divided into two doses. Group 5 did not receive any treatment and served as the control group.
newlineBody temperature was measured everyday, beginning on day 1 and continuing till sacrifice. During the sacrificial event, following parameters: Hemoglobin (Hb), Ferritin, Urea, Creatinine, (AST), Alanine Transaminases (ALT), Alkaline Phosphatases (ALP), Interleukin-6 (IL-6), (INF-and#947;). Furthermore, essential organs were gathered for histological examination.
newlineRESULTS
newlineAll animals which received LPS injection developed SIRS. level, reduced total WBC count, serum creatinine, liver enzymes and inflammatory markers. The histopathology of the vital organs showed regenerative
newlineCONCLUSION
newlineAccording to the findings of this study, both KSK and PJ demonstrated antiinflammatory
newlineeffects by improving discovered that KSK and PJ exert a safeguarding
newlineeffect against renal and hepatic damage generated by SIRS. The impact of KSK and PJ
newlineon the majority of the evaluated parameters was similar to that of hydrocortisone.
newlineTherefore, it may be inferred that KSK and PJ possess the potential to be therapeutically
newlineeffective in cases of severe acute inflammatory diseases.
