A prospective interventional study on the clinical outcome of retro fixated iris claw lenses

Abstract

Background: Cataract is the most prevalent and major cause of blindness across the world which is reversible Cataract is characterized by the presence of cloudiness or opacity in the typically transparent crystalline lens of the eye. This study focuses on best corrected visual acuity after surgery and the secondary post operative complications at various intervals following surgery for 180 days, thereby doing all the required interventions to prevent and treat problems. newlineMaterials and Methods: A prospective interventional study was held in the ophthalmology department , Chettinad Hospital and Resaearch Institute ,Kelambakkam in 50 patients. The study procedure involved patients A detailed history and examination was done. Preoperative assessment was done in all intraoperative complicated surgery and planned secondary IOL implantation cases.The postoperative examination included BCVA, IOP, endothelial cell count ,CMT and other complications .The observations were made on postoperative Day 1,Day 7,Day 30,Day 90,Day 180 . newlineResults: newlineThe BCVA postoperatively improved in 35 eyes(70% ).The mean post operative IOP by the end of 180th day was within normal range . were reduced in all the patients post operatively which was significant but the cornea was still healthy. The central macular thickness measured by OCT macula was increased in 5 patients postoperatively . It came back to normal by the end of postoperative 180th day . newlineConclusion: : Our study, retro fixated iris claw lens implantation demonstrated that it s a safe procedure with good visual outcome in majority of patients with fewer complications. newlineKey words: iris claw lenses, Cataract, Retro fixation, visual acuity, vision newline
