The requirement of fossil fuel has increased due to the development of automobile industries and population growth. In India, the usage of diesel-operated vehicles has amplified due to their low fuel consumption and high Brake Thermal Efficiency (BTE). The drawback in diesel operated vehicles are high levels of particulate matter and nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions that make it difficult for Compression Ignition (CI) engines to meet stringent emission standards. Both the particulate matter and the oxides of nitrogen in a CI-engine are very difficult to control because of their trade-off. Besides the pollution, fossil fuel will quickly deplete and the world will face a fuel crisis. To meet demand in the future, alternative fuel for diesel fuel is necessary. Based on the combustion and heat content, biodiesel is a promising fuel for the compression ignition engine. Biodiesel is a sustainable, oxygen-free, biodegradable, sulfur-free, and non-toxic fuel. It can be used without any significant modification in the CI engine blended with diesel fuel. Up to 75% of the CI engine emission can be reduced by the use of biodiesel. The technique for engine modification was considered one of the latest advances in engine research aimed to complete combustion. The Present work includes engine modification technique namely Thermal Barrier Coating (TBC) with Yttria Stabilized Zirconia (YSZ), Magnesium oxide (MgO) and Titanium oxide (TiO2). Using the plasma spray coating technique, the engine combustion chamber parts such as piston crown, cylinder head and intake exhaust valves were coated with TBC material with the thickness of 150and#956;m. A TBC in engine and engine parts aims to minimize the heat losses, to improve engine performance. newline
