Power system stabilizers PSS are used to damp the low frequency newlineoscillations in a power system During changes in operating conditions newlineoscillations of small magnitude and low frequency often persist for long newlineperiod of time and in some cases even disturb limitations on power transfer newlinecapability newlineThe basic function of a PSS is to add damping to the generator rotor newlineoscillations by controlling its excitation using auxiliary stabilizing signals To newlineprovide damping the stabilizer must produce a component of electrical torque newlinein phase with the rotor speed deviations Studies have shown that a well tuned newlinePSS can effectively improve power system dynamic stability newline newline newline
