Abstract
The environment of galaxies is crucial to their evolution. Galaxies in the nearby
newlineUniverse are observed to have a lower star formation rate when compared to galaxies
newlineat redshift and#8764;1-2. Observations have shown that galaxy properties are related to its
newlinelarge-scale environment. In order to understand the eand#64256;ects of these environments
newlineon galaxy evolution one needs to not only understand the physical processes that
newlineare at play in these environments but also how properties of galaxies evolve from
newlineone environment to another.
newlineIn this thesis, we use a variety of tools: analytical models, multi-wavelength
newlineobservations and hydrodynamical simulations, to probe the eand#64256;ects of the large-
newlinescale environment on galaxy properties. We focus on two processes that aand#64256;ect
newlinethe galaxy properties, namely, ram pressure stripping and mergers. We also study
newlinethe eand#64256;ects of large-scale and#64257;lament environment in observations as well as simulations.
newlineThe following sections describe the work in more detail.
