Effect of leaving astigmatism uncorrected on near point of accommodation nd near point of convergence

Abstract

Aim:To assess the changes in NPA and NPC in a comparison to males and females and myopes newlineand Hyperopes by leaving astigmatism uncorrected of small quantum. newlineMethods:An observational study is getting performed for 400 patients under convenient sampling. newlinePrior permission was being taken from all subjects. Subjects satisfying the inclusion criteria were newlinebeing elected for study. Ocular diagnostics were being performed to rule out any pathology or newlineanomaly. All subjects under 35 yrs age were being taken to assess their NPA and NPC with and newlinewithout cylindrical correction in their refraction with the Help of RAF Ruler. Subjects were being newlinetaken where the total refractive status was upto 2.00D.The specified age group was between 20- newline35 yes including male and females. They were randomly being picked from total subjects at Preet newlineOptical Clinic, Amritsar and Sankara Eye hospital Ludhiana fulfilling all inclusion criterion. Each newlinewas one assed for their binocular NPA and binocular NPC with cyl correction and they these values newlinewere being taken without cyl correction and only spherical equivalent. All the patients were under newlinethe cyl amount of 0.25 to 0.75 D. newlineResults:There is not much Study done on this in past. Using Pair t test showed no much changes newlinein near point of convergence by avoiding cylindrical correction and giving only spherical newlineequivalent correction. There were some changes shown in near point of accommodation when cyl newlinepower was not being given and only spherical equivalent was being given. In Near point of newlineaccommodation it showed mean difference for 0.25 Dcyl as -0.25 with P value 0.305 and for 0.50 newlineDcyl it showed mead diff of -0.59 with p value of lt0.014 and for 0.75 dcyl it showed mean diff of newline-1.26 and p value of lt0.001. newlineConclusion : Leaving Astigmatism uncorrected does effect the NPA to an extent and can surely newlinecall for early presbyopia. newline
