Abstract

Water is a precious natural resource and survival on the earth is newlinenot possible without this resource. It is also one of the renewable natural newlineresource. But, it is not possible to utilize the entire water available on newlineearth from different sources, because of its various forms (ice, snow and newlinesoil moisture) and salinity. The availability of fresh water on the earth is newlinelimited to only 2.7%. The increased population, industrialization and newlineurbanization leads to high demand on this limited fresh water from newlinevarious sources. In order to manage the demand, the water resource newlinesystem requires a proper management, which in turn requires a proper newlinewater resource information system showing different hydrological data. newlineWeb enabled Geographical Information System (WEBGIS) is an online newlineplatform, through which we can make enable spatial information to newlinedifferent users. The present study focuses on creating web enabled water newlineresource information system for Poondi micro watershed for the newlineefficient management of the micro watershed. The research is carried newlineout in different phases to achieve the objectives of the study. newlineFrom the first phase the water samples are collected from the newlinestudy area to analyze the water quality status. There are twelve samples newlinecollected from the study area. The analysis of the test results shows that, newlineix newlinethe water quality was with in the permissible limits suggested by Bureau newlineof Indian Standards for all samples except sample 2 and 6. newlineFrom the second phase, the various data required for the runoff newlineestimation and delineation of groundwater potential zone was collected newlinefrom government departments and official website of different newlineorganizations. In the third phase, the runoff estimation was done with newlineArcSWAT model. The ArcSWAT model was calibrated and validated newlinewith SWATCUP software for Poondi micro watershed. The efficiency newlineof the model was checked with R2 statistical parameter. The statistical newlinevalue (R2 =0.87) shows that there was close correlation between the newlineobserved and measured data. The highest runoff depth
